A 15 watt LED tube emits 1800lumens compared to 2100 lumens from the 40 watt fluorescent tube it is designed to replace. The gross lumen output of the fluorescent tube is higher but when LED tube lights are installed in typical fluorescent light fixtures they appear brighter than fluorescent tubes. The most important reason behind this observation is reflection and its associated losses. The old fixtures reflectors had collected a small amount of dust. The reflectivity was consequently far less than in a new fixture. LED Tube Light in contrast do not depend on reflection.
